the reason for this piece is because of the location, I found this piece different to the others because I have mainly based putting the ghosts around pathways and walkways but I decided to use this photo because it differs from the rest of my photos. I decided to put the ghost walking through the tall plants because I found it makes the photo a lot more sinister and mysterious, almost as if if you stray from the path this is what could happen to you, spending the rest of eternity roaming a forest.
to create this piece I again used photoshop changing the photo into black and white and changing the brightness and contrast to my liking, I then used curves which allows me to manipulate the tonal range and colour balance of an image. to create the ghost I used the selection tool to cut out a figure of a person in a different photo and added it to my mine using the paint bucket tool to change it completely to black, I then changed the opacity and used the smudge tool to make the edges less sharp. |
I have created many similar photos throughout this project all of them including ghosts/spirits but in every photo the ghosts are the same colour so for this photograph I added two but made them different colours, this worked very well with this particular piece because in the image the pathway splits off so I placed each ghost in front of the entrances I find this effective because it makes the viewer question what would happen if they ventured down both paths. this piece is actually one of my preferred pieces because it's slightly different from the rest and I was thinking of doing something similar for my final piece.

Carsten Witte's photography has an uncanny ability to evoke a myriad of emotions within me, ranging from introspection and contemplation to a sense of ethereal wonder. Her masterful use of light, shadow, and composition creates an atmosphere that is both haunting and captivating. When I immerse myself in her work, I am transported to a realm where reality intertwines with the enigmatic, leaving me with a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore the unknown.
Incorporating Witte's techniques into my own work would allow me to push the boundaries of storytelling and create images that transcend the limitations of reality. By experimenting with light and shadow, I can enhance the mood and atmosphere of my photographs, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of their own emotions and imagination. Witte's approach reminds me that photography is not merely about capturing what is visible but also about capturing what is felt and experienced.
In conclusion, Carsten Witte's photography elicits a profound emotional response within me and provides a wealth of inspiration for my own artistic endeavours. By adopting her techniques of incorporating the supernatural, playing with light and shadow, and infusing a sense of wonder into my work, I can craft images that transport viewers to a realm beyond reality, where imagination and emotion intertwine. Witte's artistry serves as a guiding light, reminding me to explore the uncharted territories of storytelling and capture the ephemeral moments that hold the power to evoke awe and curiosity in others.

this piece is extremely similar to another piece I have created although this piece contains black ghosts and the picture itself is in black and white the other photo is white ghosts with sepia tones to it, I find this type of photo visually appeasing because of the fact I've included multiple ghosts it gets you asking questions, where are the ghosts going? where did they come from? keeping the deadly dull contrasts gives the photo more edge and I did consider having the photo in sepia but I find black and white fits the mood more.

for this art piece I have decided to place two of the ghosts on the side of a pathway because it gives the viewer the interpretation that they're trying to guard something, similar to my last piece it gets you asking questions which is something i like to include into my work .
