these photos are very similar to the photos I was working on closer to the start of the project, I thought about using black & white but recently I've been much preferring sepia it has an old outdated tone to it similar to photos taken by William H. Mumler although his photos were taken in the 19th century when the technology wasn't as good as it is today they still had a very ominous and frightening effect to them I believe this is because of the sepia tone and the double exposure which is something I have tried to include into my own work. I need to work on the exposure of these photos because at the moment I'm not sure weather to keep the photos overly exposed or under exposed at the moment I'm stuck between the two because the darkness makes the photo look more deadly and the lighter photo makes it look more innocent. although this could be another link to my theme which is "life and death" the lighter photos could represent life and the darker photos could represent death.
at this current moment during the project I'm finding it difficult to decide whether to have the ghosts as white, black or they're normal colours, I might considering adding all three into one photo to give me a better understanding on what I prefer although i have been leaning towards the white, it looks better with black and white and sepia because it matches there contrasts. the photo on the left is unusual because of the composition of the trees and the ghosts, the tree is more towards the centre of the shot it tends to gain your attention more than anything else this is why I have placed a ghost either side of this tree, placing the ghosts in this position makes me feel like they're there for a reason, which gets you asking questions, which is what I hope the viewer feels too.
the photo on the right is similar although in the first photo the ghosts had already arrived at there location but the ghosts in the photo on the right are still on route to wherever they're going which could be anywhere this is why I'm quite fond of this piece there's a mysterious factors involved that I find drags you in and gets your asking questions. |
